Tips for Photoshoots with Babies
Today I am sharing this beautiful family session because … they are gorgeous and I can’t get over this sweet girl’s hair!
This brought up the thought of giving you some tips on doing a photoshoot with older babies. Believe it or not, this is the easy stage! Once that little bundle of joy starts walking … that is when things get FUN!
With babies under 1 year, all posing and activities are decided based on what the babies abilities are at that time. Can baby sit on their own? Can they stand while holding something? Or can they already walk? We are on their schedule though so we will let them guide us at the session.
The best tip at this stage is to keep baby HAPPY. Feed them when they want to be fed (and yes, if you need to nurse don’t be shy about it!), bring something they love if they have a favorite stuffie or pacie … portraits are about documenting who they are so keep that in mind.
Also, bring 1-2 outfit changes that are coordinated with your other outfits (this really goes for any kids under the age of 5 because … accidents happen, blowouts happen, mud happens etc) and we don’t want everyone else dressed nicely and then baby over here in a neon-colored onsie and sharks on it … (unless that’s your thing, and I am totally cool with it!).
Lastly, keep your expectations in check! This session is about documenting your now, not your “wanna be now” so if it isn’t your reality … try not to expect that and just enjoy our time together creating awesomeness that you can look back at and smile, laugh and reminisce.
